Network Overview

Understanding the EDC's pre-wired network architecture and connectivity options.

⏱️ Read Time: 3 minutes

Overview

The EDC includes a network infrastructure with all internal components connected via a managed switch. The network is designed for immediate deployment with minimal configuration required.

Core Network Components:

  • EnGenius Networks ECS2510FP managed PoE+ switch (8-port, 2.5Gb; 10Gb if upgraded)
  • EnGenius Networks ECP106 or ECP106-INT managed PDU (network-monitored power)
  • EDC Health Monitor device (PoE-powered)
  • Compute nodes (edition-dependent)
  • Pre-wired keystone jack panel for external connections

Network Architecture

Internal Network

All components connect through the EnGenius switch, which provides:

  • Data connectivity for compute nodes, PDU, and IoT devices
  • Power over Ethernet (PoE+) for the IoT monitoring device and your Wireless Gateway/AP.
  • Management access for monitoring and control
  • Uplink ports for external network connections (recommended to connect either to trusted network or via the Security Gateway)

Factory Configuration

The switch and PDU ship with factory default settings, and functions essentially as an unmanaged switch. Initial network access uses the default IP addresses and credentials provided by EnGenius.

Port Assignments by Edition

The EDC comes pre-wired with all internal connections completed. Port assignments vary by edition.

For detailed wiring diagrams and complete port mappings, refer to:

👉 Wiring Diagrams - Appendix

This Appendix Includes:

  • Complete port-to-device mapping for each edition
  • Power distribution diagrams
  • Cable labeling reference
  • Available ports for expansion

Quick Reference

📦 NUC Edition:

  • Ports 1-6: Compute nodes (2 RJ45 ports per NUC, labeled cables)
  • Port 7: EDC Health Monitor (PoE Powered)
  • Ports 8 (RJ45) and 10 (SFP+): Available for uplink, gateway, or other devices
  • Port 9 (SFP+): PDU network connection

🔶 HR-01-2 Edition:

  • Ports 1-2: Backup network links to the compute nodes
  • Port 3: EDC Health Monitor (PoE Powered)
  • Port 4: PDU network connection
  • Port 5-8: Available for uplink, gateway, or other devices
  • Ports 9-10 (SFP+): Primary network links to the compute nodes
  • Note: Direct DAC interconnect between HR-01 nodes (not through switch)

Copper Connection:

  • Connect site network to available port
  • Supports auto-negotiation: 100M/1G/2.5G/5G/10G
  • Standard RJ45 Ethernet cable to native RJ45 port or transceiver

Note: SFP+ ports 9-10 come with copper transceivers pre-installed for RJ45 connectivity

Cellular Gateway:

  • 5G/LTE cellular connectivity option (such as Mako 5600)
  • Connects to available switch ports
  • See more Gateway Deployment

Wiring

Keystone Jack Panel

The EDC includes a keystone jack panel for connection of the EDC items to the switch due to the internal wiring for neat cable organization.

Advanced Configuration

For network customization beyond basic uplink connectivity:

Note: The EDC is pre-wired for immediate operation. Advanced network configuration is optional and should only be performed by qualified network administrators.
